VisionQuest Reveals Vision Secretly Preserved Ultron
Retcons are a familiar feature of comic book movies, allowing new stories to revisit—and sometimes improve—events from earlier installments.
VisionQuest, Marvel’s upcoming series centered on Paul Bettany’s android, is set to reframe a major moment from Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Vision Chose Mercy Over Destruction
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Vision appeared to erase the villainous artificial intelligence Ultron, voiced by James Spader, from existence. However, showrunner Terry Matalas has revealed that this was not exactly what happened.
According to Matalas, Vision secretly created a backup of Ultron. Although Vision recognized that Ultron was lost and posed a serious threat to humanity, he ultimately did not want to destroy him and chose to show mercy at the last moment.
A New Chapter for White Vision
VisionQuest continues the story of White Vision, the replacement android who received the original Vision’s memories. The series will act as a sequel to WandaVision while also functioning as a standalone story.
As Vision searches for answers, he will encounter several artificial intelligence characters from Marvel’s past, including E.D.I.T.H. The story will also feature unexpected family revelations and Ultron’s return.
Matalas explained that the series will explore Vision’s identity in greater depth than either the films or WandaVision could. It will examine previously unexplored elements of his origins, potentially reaching further back than audiences had believed. While the show remains connected to Vision’s earlier appearances, it is intended to stand as its own distinct story.
Release Date
VisionQuest will premiere on Disney+ on October 14.
